Sauces That Go Well With Salmon

Creamy lemon garlic butter sauce:

This one is an absolute classic! This lemon garlic butter sauce is perfect if you love creamy dishes and garlic-salmon combinations. Plus, both garlic and lemon have significant health benefits that turn this salmon dish into a delicious and nutritious powerhouse! This sauce takes just 15 minutes to prepare and goes great with pan-seared, broiled, poached, or baked salmon.

The ingredients are white wine, heavy cream, butter, lemon juice, lemon zest, minced garlic, dill, shallots, salt, and pepper. First, chop the garlic, shallots, and dill. Then add the garlic and shallots to a saucepan with a splash of olive oil. Cook over low heat for 5 minutes or until soft. Stir in the white wine, increase the heat to medium and cook for 5 more minutes. Now remove from heat and add the butter and heavy cream, stirring to combine. Return the preparation to heat and mix until it starts to bubble. Remove again from heat and top off with lemon juice, dill, and lemon zest. Ready to plate!

Honey mustard sauce:

The smokiness of the mustard and the sweetness of the honey are a stellar combination when paired with the delicate flavors of salmon. This sauce goes great with oven-baked salmon, pan-fried salmon, and the fancy salmon en papillote. And, you’ve guessed it, this is another 5-minute recipe!

You’ll need just 4 ingredients: honey, Dijon mustard, pepper flakes, and orange juice. Just combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and refrigerate while the salmon cooks. Then pour it over the warm fish and let it work its magic!

Tomatillo salsa verde:

This Mexican-inspired sauce is part of one of our favorite appetizer recipes with salmon. That’s Scott Linquist’s Cured Salmon Tartare With Sliced Avocado and Tomatillo Salsa Fresca! This dish is a showstopper. But if you prefer to stick to cooked salmon, today we’re bringing to you the tomatillo salsa verde on its own. This sauce goes amazingly well with pan-fried or grilled salmon. And it’s perfect for a summer evening! You can literally make this sauce in 5 minutes. So let’s get started!

The ingredients are fresh and flavorful. You’ll need tomatillos, jalapeños, cilantro, white onion, garlic, lime juice, sugar, and salt. Now here comes the fun part. All you have to do is mix the ingredients in a food processor! Simply puree them until smooth and refrigerate until ready to eat.

Creamy yogurt dill sauce:

This one is as versatile as sauce recipes get! And here’s why. The freshness and citrusy taste of the dill mix nicely with the creaminess and acidity of the yogurt. That’s what makes this sauce both a summer/spring or winter/fall staple! We love it for the in-between seasons paired with a warm broiled salmon or a couple of crispy pan-seared salmon fillets. Dill is also packed with different health benefits, making it a healthy and nutritious choice. So let’s get into this 5-minute recipe!

You’ll need garlic, dill, greek yogurt, salt, and olive oil. First, mince the garlic and chop the fresh dill. Add to a bowl and mix with the salt and olive oil. Finally, incorporate the yogurt and stir all the ingredients together until a smooth paste forms. Enjoy!

White wine sauce:

Who doesn’t love good white wine? Well, the great news is that you can also have it on your plate, not just as an accompaniment to the dish. It’s possible with this creamy white wine sauce! It only takes 20 minutes to prepare and you’ll want to make it all winter long. It goes especially well with poached salmon, so read this article if you want to learn how to prepare it. Now let's get back to the sauce!

So here are your ingredients: heavy cream, butter, white wine, flour, chives, and pepper. The first step is to add butter to a saucepan and let it melt over medium heat. Stir in the flour and mix for a full minute. Then incorporate the wine and bring the mix to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 8 minutes or until the liquid is cut in half. Add the heavy cream and increase the heat to medium once again. Mix in the chives, salt, and pepper. Let it cook for 5 more minutes and serve!

Miso glaze:

For an Asian-style salmon dish, try pan-seared salmon with this delicious miso glaze! This is a sweeter sauce, but still savory enough to be enjoyed with salmon. Get ready for a caramel-like texture and a fair amount of probiotics with each bite. It takes less than 10 minutes to prepare, so let’s just go ahead!

You’ll need brown sugar, soy sauce, white miso, and hot water. Sounds easy, right? It actually is! First off, bring water to a boil. Then just combine all ingredients in a medium-sized bowl. That’s it! Enjoy it with grilled, pan-seared, or oven-baked salmon.

Sweet and sour sauce:

This sweet and sour sauce gives salmon a tropical spin. With pineapple juice and honey, you’ll be feeling summery all around after eating this dish. We recommend this fun and tasty sauce for pan-seared, grilled, broiled, and hot-smoked salmon alongside a serving of quinoa or brown rice. But you can enjoy it with any type of salmon and other accompaniments! Plus, it only takes 15 minutes to prepare!

The ingredients are olive oil, pineapple juice, honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, cornstarch, rice vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, pepper flakes, cilantro, and sesame seeds. Start by whisking together cornstarch and soy sauce. Mix in the pineapple juice, brown sugar, rice vinegar, honey, ketchup, and red pepper flakes. Now sauté the ginger and garlic in a small saucepan. Add the previous mixture into the pan and combine. Remove from heat and you’re done!

Teriyaki sauce:

Teriyaki salmon is just a classic. This dish is a staple of Asian American cuisine and one of our favorite ways to eat salmon paired with a sauce! Teriyaki sauce has a sweet but smoky flavor, giving the natural taste of the salmon a nice edge. Plus, it takes pretty much just 5 minutes to make. It’s great for all seasons and all salmon cooking methods. Though if we had to choose, we would 100% go with pan-fried salmon for this pairing!

To make homemade Teriyaki sauce, you’ll need brown sugar, natural Teriyaki, hoisin sauce, white vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, brown sugar, and garlic. Start by mincing the ginger and garlic. Then sauté them in a small pan. Mix in the rest of the ingredients and combine until the sugar is dissolved. Now you’re ready to plate alongside a delicious salmon!
