Since we love salmon salad so much, today’s post is all about how to make his refreshing, healthy, and insanely delicious meal. So below we are sharing a quick and easy way for how to make a salmon salad like tuna salad just in time for your summer get-togethers!
How To Make Salmon Salad Like Tuna Salad
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs. Salmon
- ½ cup Mayonnaise
- ⅓ cup Celery
- ⅓ cup Red Onion
- ¼ cup chopped Green Onions
- Black Pepper
- ⅓ cup Parsley
- 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
1. Salmon:
When shopping for salmon, it's always important to choose the best quality fish you can find. Oshēn salmon is ocean-raised, ocean-loved, sustainable, and shipped directly from fjords in Chilé to your doorstep. For this recipe, the One Night Stand box is plenty but if you're planning to make more servings you can of course grab the Entertainer or Oshēn's Twelve.
2. Mayonnaise:
It wouldn’t be a salmon salad without mayonnaise, right? This ingredient is just as important as canned salmon. It adds creaminess and freshness to the dish, pulling all other ingredients together. There are many mayonnaise options that can fit any dietary needs, so don’t worry if you have a gluten-free or dairy intolerant family member. Plus, you can make your own at home!
3. Celery:
Celery is one of the most underrated vegetables out there. This green goodness adds a wonderful crunch to any meal and is anti-inflammatory and extra low in calories. It also goes well with pretty much anything, so it’s no surprise we included it in this salmon salad recipe.
4. Red Onion:
You could easily swap this ingredient for plain white onions, but red ones go the best with salmon salad. These are sharper and spicier, and you will find them in plenty of other summer salads.
5. Green Onions:
Green onions, also called scallions, are another underrated vegetable. These have a softer texture and milder flavor than red onions, offering a delightful contrast. Just add them raw to the salmon salad for added green goodness and a fresh touch!
6. Black Pepper:
This ingredient adds a distinct earthiness to the dish. It’s the fan-favorite peppercorn and goes really well with seafood. It’ll make your salmon salad pack a punch of flavor!
7. Parsley:
This herb will also contribute to the earthiness of the salad. Its flavor profile is somewhat bitter, which adds a welcomed contrast to the sweetness of the salmon and mayonnaise. It also makes any dish stand out when used as a garnish!
8. Lemon Juice:
A summer salad would never be the same without a hint of fresh lemon juice. This last ingredient is optional but recommended, as its acidity works perfectly for seasoning salmon salad.
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the salmon.
For the best flavor, we recommend grilling your salmon first. However, if you prefer to bake, boil, or fry your salmon that is fine too. You can see more ways to cook salmon at home HERE. No matter which method you choose, the most important thing is that once you have your salmon cooked, you'll want to chop it into small pieces similar to the way canned tuna looks in tuna salad. You can chop or simply shred your salmon with a fork.
Step 2: Chop the vegetables.
Wash the red onions, green onions, and celery. Then cut them into thin slices.
Step 3: Combine the ingredients.
Grab a large bowl and toss in all the ingredients. Then mix well until you have achieved your desired consistency. Feel free to add extra mayonnaise if you want the salmon salad to be more creamy.
Step 4: Serve in your preferred way.
That’s it, you made yourself some delicious salmon salad! Now it’s time to plate your meal. You can eat this salad as its own dish, with a few slices of bread, inside a lettuce wrap, on a bagel, or on top of crackers. The choice is yours! Keep in mind too, you can spice up your salmon salad any way you like. Add grapes, raisins, jalapeño, pickles, poached egg, truly anything you want to make it your own.
