7 Salmon Steak Recipes

Salmon Steak Recipes

Salmon comes in a variety of cuts! We often discuss salmon filets here, because they’re already deboned (aside from pin bones), have great texture, and come in the perfect portion size. But, another favorable cut of salmon are salmon steaks!

When fileting a salmon, the salmon is cut in half from head to tail. Then, you remove the skin and bone. Finally, it’s chopped into portions. Conversely, when preparing salmon steaks, the salmon is sliced from fin to fin in perfect meal-sized chunks. The bone and skin remain. This is called a salmon steak!

Because salmon steaks are cut widthwise off the salmon, they’re thicker and hold up well for certain recipes—especially grilling and frying! Plus, there’s just something about bone-in flavor that really elevates the meal. So, today, we’re sharing 7 delicious salmon recipes that use steaks:

Herbed Salmon Steaks

This herbed salmon steak recipe is an American classic. The spice blend is a great choice for a family meal. It’s tried-and-true and sure to please! Serve with baked potatoes and fresh vegetables as side dishes for a complete salmon meal that rivals your standard beef steak entrée.

This meal takes about an hour of prepping and cooking time, but it’s well worth the wait. First, you coat your salmon steaks in butter and lemon juice. Then, you place them in a pan with onion salt, thyme, and ground black pepper. They bake in the oven at 400°F for about 35 minutes.

Finally, you top it with paprika, parsley, and lemon wedges. Delicious! Remember that this recipe is only for two salmon steaks, so double or triple it if you’re feeding the whole family or invited guests.

Maple Garlic Salmon Steaks

With this simple healthy recipe, you can use salmon steaks or salmon filets! So, if your freezer is already crowded with delicious and nutritious salmon filets from Oshēn Salmon, don’t fret. Use what you’ve got.

We called this recipe simple. Why? It has just a handful of ingredients and doesn’t take long to cook at all! All you need is your salmon, salt and pepper, ghee, garlic, and maple syrup for a delicious, healthy (Paleo!), and nutritious meal. Your salmon simply bakes and then broils in your oven set to 450˚F.

For garnish, you can add chopped scallions and crushed red pepper flakes. Great side options for this dish are sautéed vegetables and cauliflower rice. These options are still healthy, so nowhere in this entire meal will you compromise your diet goals. If you want more healthy side dishes to go with salmon, check out these options

Air Fryer Salmon Steaks

Who doesn’t love an air fryer meal? Set it and forget it! No forgetting your seafood in the oven while you’re making sides or getting the skillet too hot before you fry it. Air fryers don’t make a big mess and they make cooking high quality proteins stress-free.

This recipe is ready in less than 30 minutes, so it’s a great weeknight choice. But, do plan ahead, because you’ll want your salmon to have proper marinating time. Let the salmon steaks sit in a mixture of Worcestershire sauce, rice vinegar, garlic paste, sesame oil, and salt for at least an hour if not overnight.

Once it’s time to cook the salmon steak, drop them in the air fryer for 15 minutes at 400˚F. Coat the salmon with the rest of the marinade, and then cook it for another 15 minutes. Finally, garnish with sesame seeds. And, since it’s Asian inspired, rice and stir-fry vegetables are great side dish choices!

Lemon Pepper Salmon Steaks

When you think of flavors that pair well with salmon, lemon is probably the first thing that comes to mind. The citrus pairs perfectly with this rich seafood delicacy, which is why this lemon pepper salmon recipe is so yummy!

For this recipe, you take all purpose seasoning, lemon pepper, and paprika, and season your steaks. Then, the salmon goes into a large skillet over medium high heat for 4-5 minutes. When it’s done, you’ll pour melted butter and lemon juice over the salmon steaks.

For sides, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans pair perfectly! This is a meal you and your dinner guests will be talking about for weeks. So easy and so delicious!

Grilled Salmon Steaks with Creamy Mustard Chive Sauce

Delicious grilled salmon steaks in 15 minutes? Yes, please! First up, get the grill ready! You can either fire up a traditional grill, or heat a grill pan on the stove to medium high heat. Then, pat the salmon dry to ensure there’s no extra moisture that’ll make it stick to the grill. After that, brush both sides of the steak with avocado oil and season with salt and pepper.

Grill it for 5-7 minutes depending on the thickness. While it’s cooking, mix ‌your sauce, which is mustard, Greek yogurt, chives, honey, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. When the salmon is your desired doneness, plate it, and spread the sauce on the top. If you need some side dish ideas, check out our list of the best side dishes for grilled salmon.
